Zahira’s Isham moves to second place - BATA-Sunday Times Most Popular School Boy Cricketer 2009

At the conclusion of the fifth count of the Bata Sunday Times All Island Most Popular Schoolboy cricketer contest see St Peter’s skipper Angelo Perera maintaining his lead for the fifth successive week. Angelo polled 724 votes ending February 13 to increase his votes to 2533 to lead the field by 2158 votes.

However the biggest surprise for the week came from Zahira skipper and all rounder Isham Ghouse who has come into the reckoning for the first time by polling 375 votes in his first appearance in the process dislodging last week’s No 2 Buwaneka Ekanayake.

With Ghouse moving to the second position Buwaneka goes one place down to third. Buwaneka received only 40 votes as against 103 he got last week.

In fourth and fifth place is Royal skipper Yasitha Abeykoon who received 131 votes and finishing on 316 votes while Nishika de Silva of St Joseph’s who received 141 votes had ended up at 258.

Meanwhile in the Outstation and International Schools contest Amith Tillekeratne of Sri Rahula Kandy and Malith Silva of Gateway College also maintained their lead for the fifth successive week.

Amith received 193 votes to accumulate 427 while Malith gained 150 votes to finish on 405. The duo is way ahead of their rivals Niwanka Abeyrathne of Sri Sumangala Panadura and Arunalu Weerasinghe of Lyceum International.
