Village attacked, 10 killed

Ten civilians including children were hacked to death by suspected LTTE cadres while four others including two children sustained serious injuries in an attack at Rathmalgaha Ella, near Rathugala in Inginiyagala yesterday evening, the Defence Ministry said.

The civilians who are mainly chena cultivators had also been shot at. Army and Police Special Task Force (STF) personnel launched a search operation in the area to hunt down the attackers.

Reports from the area said the death toll could be higher.
