The cricketer Malinda Warnapura is a proud product of St. Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya, and a popular parishioner at St. Lawrence’s Church, Wellawatte, where he has been an altar server and a long-time member of the Youth League.
He excelled in cricket at a young age and deservedly gained a place on the national cricket team. He has represented Sri Lanka on many Test cricket tours overseas. Before leaving on a tour, he never fails to visit St Lawrence’s to seek God’s blessings. He always wears the holy rosary round his neck, even while at play.
Malinda was one of the members of the Sri Lanka team that recently visited Lahore, Pakistan. By the grace of God, he escaped without any harm and returned home safely.
On his return, after spending a few hours with his family and friends, he headed for St Lawrence’s Church to thank God for his miraculous survival, without injuries. He met the parish priest, Father Bob Rodrigo, and described his experience in Lahore. He also expressed a desire to give witness in church to his miraculous survival by the mercy of God and the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Fr. Rodrigo spoke of Malinda Warnapura’s experience when he addressed the congregation attending the March 5 novena to the Infant Jesus, at St. Lawrence’s Church.
