An exhibition of Children's art sculpture and photography was held on March 13 and 14 at St. Lawrence's Convent - Colombo 06.
An eminent artist Mr. Jayasiri Semage declared open the exhibition of Friday the 13th at 9.00 a.m. In his address the chief guest appreciated the talents of the students. Further he elaborated that the paintings displayed feelings and sentiments of young students in their formative years and are worthy of being represented at International level.
"Warna Sankalana" Lama Sithkam Dakma was opened for the public on Saturday the 14th as well, reputed artist Mr. Charles Dayananda was the chief guest. In his address he too stated that the exhibits are commendable and he enjoyed the hidden talents of the younger generation. He stressed on the importance of giving a free hand to the children to express their feelings through colours and expressions and said that a child's inner feelings are brought out freely through their drawings. A dull child or an introvert can excel in art and photography if encouraged. He also stated that diverting the children's minds towards art could cure them of various illnesses.
Mr. Sarukkhan the divisional director of education, Colombo South the guest of honour on the 14th too appreciated the exhibition a great deal and encouraged the staff and the students to make it an annual event.
A souvenir was also published with the photographs of the winners and their exhibits to commemorate the historic event. The children were rewarded with prizes and certificates for their efforts. Parents appreciated the Principal of St. Lawrence's Convent, Rev. Sr. Mary Chandrika Perera for her great service to the school and for all the encouragement and support given to the staff towards the success of their exhibition.
