World renowned ‘Duwa Passion play’ (Duwa Pasku) will be enacted at 3 pm on Friday April 4 at the Bishop’s College, Colombo.
Jointly organised by Drama and Theatre Unit of Kelaniya University under the guidance of head of the Drama Theatre Unit, Dr. Patrick Ratnayake and Duwa Passion Play Committee, historical passion play which is being played after twenty years would be a rare opportunity for those interested in the theatre and drama of this country.
Traditionally played as a part of the Christian religious service on the Good Friday, ‘Duwa Passion play’ is enacted with a massive cast of 250 actors based on a script written by late Rev. Fr. Merciline Jayakody OMI.
The passion play will be enacted following the release of book “The History, Form and Usage of Sri Lankan Passion Plays” written by Wijith Rohan, lecturer attached to the department of Western Classical Culture and Christian Culture, University of Kelaniya and published by S. Godage Brothers and a CD and a cassette of passion hymns (Pasan and Lathoni) produced by Clement Fernando adds a new leaf to the literature of drama in Sri Lanka. There will also be a workshop on passion plays from 2.00 pm to 3.00 pm. |
