Anil Balasuriya’s new band Magic Vinyl, is set to make its debut at this show. The band features two female members, Sam Weerawardane, guitarist and Maria Soysa, drummer. Also on guitar is Allan Outschoorn, while Isuru Pasan is the Bassist and Anil himself is the vocalist.
The group which has been together for a little more than three months have been busy practising. They plan to launch their own website before the end of the month and also hope to release their first CD before August. They are working on getting one of their songs aired on radio before the end of this month and are also working on a music video which will be released in two months time.
The band neither fits into nor wishes to fit into any particular niche with regard to their genre of music. According to Anil, the kind of music they favour can be described as indie/ alternative. “Unlike most other bands on the scene right now, we are not heavily into metal but it’s hard to describe what we are. We are not an angry bunch but then we are not a very happy bunch either,” he says.
Magic Vinyl will be performing six songs in all for the show including their own originals as well as some covers. Even the covers according to Anil are of the type rarely reproduced in Sri Lanka and will feature items from bands such as the Editors and Kings of Leon.
The other bands accompanying Magic Vinyl for the show are HollowPoint Halo, LOA, Powercut Circus as well as a performance by solo artist Sajeed.
The venue for the show is The Shine, Maitland Crescent and the time is 9pm on June 06. Tickets, priced at Rs.500 will be available at the gate. The electronic media sponsor for the show is Art TV, while the print media sponsors will be The Sunday Times.
