It is indeed a matter for rejoicing that Musical Miscellany 2009 was staged by the Junior Branch of the Girl Guides Association on March 28, 2009 at Jeramias Dias Hall, Visakha Vidyalaya, Bambalapitiya. The
inspiration to stage this came from the memorable Dance Competition (Eastern and Western) held in 2008 at which the Central Province and the Southern Province emerged joint winners.

Musical Miscellany commenced with the Little Friends' "Grand Salute." This in itself was extremely effective as Little Friends from all races and all parts of the Island participated in the "Grand Salute."
The
programme included
performances by Kosala from the Kosala Dullewa Foundation for children with special needs, as well as those by other special children from the Dayamina Home.
After a variety of breath-taking items of song and dance performed by Little Friends from all over Sri Lanka, the
programme came to a close with an item from the Visakha Vidyalaya Band. All participants joined in "The Pack Rhyme" which lifted the spirits of everybody
present.
Mrs. Chitra Gunasekera, Director of the Little Friends Branch was full of praise for the Guiders, Little Friends, teachers, parents and many others who helped in no small measure.
"There was help,
cooperation and
participation from all parts of Sri Lanka. Without such
dedication and devotion from all concerned, the show would not have been so grand. The team spirit and collective responsibility which prevailed right throughout made it
possible to make Musical Miscellany so grand and memorable."
Musical Miscellany 2009 was indeed a fine
performance that brought out the hidden talents of the Little Friends
(ages 8 – 12 years) in the spacious Visakha Vidyalaya Hall, and will no doubt remain in the hearts of the audience for a long time to come. |
