It's time for another magical production from the Colombo International School (CIS) infants section. The
production this time is called 'Zoom' and is based on the story of the Hare and the Tortoise.
Harvey Hare is a shrewd and snobbish
businessman who always takes advantage of his employees, which includes the nice and upright Toby Tortoise. Toby Tortoise finally gets upset one day and resigns. An argument results and the hare, to prove his
superiority as the better man, challenges the
tortoise to a race.
Not content with
picking a challenge in which he is obviously
better equipped to win, he also uses his goons and several underhanded tricks to prevent Toby Tortoise from winning. But Toby Tortoise with the help of children – all the tortoise children, hedgehog children and even some hare children, manages to win the race.
It is to be a thoroughly rousing and enchanting two hour performance with several dance and musical items in between.
The cast consists of 160 children.
All the children who wished to take part were given a chance to perform as ultimately the play is
all about
building self confidence, social interaction and team work.
It's a major
production and so three different pairs of hares and tortoises will come in for three different acts. The highly mischievous group of five to seven year olds have been busy practising with their teachers for the
production.
All are very talented
little actors. The three
tortoises will be played by Aravind Hidramani, Iyaad Cassim and Siluna Peiris. While the three hares will be played by Niluk Bastian, Su Hyun and Kanish Baskaran.
Zoom will go on stage at the CIS school auditorium on June 11 and 12 at
6.30 p.m.
Tickets are
currently available at the school office and will be available at the school
auditorium on the days of the show for Rs. 700, 600 and 300.
