Young reporter schol from Kadir Foundation

The Lakshman Kadirgamar Foundation is to sponsor a fully funded scholarship for this year’s Best Young Reporter at the annual Journalism Awards for Excellence programme of the Editors’ Guild of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka Press Institute, the organisers announced this week.

The Foundation, established last year to carry forward the work of the former Foreign Minister in building a better Sri Lanka will allow the winner to follow a course of study at the prestigious School of Mass Communication (MASCOM) in India under the tutelage of the well known Professor Thomas Oommen.

MASCOM has waived the tuition fees for the Sri Lankan scholar in memory of the former Sri Lankan Foreign Minister, the organisers said in a press release.

The annual Journalism Awards programme will hold its 10th anniversary this year. The Young Reporter of the Year Award is presented in memory of Mr. Denzil Peiris, the founder Editor of the Janatha, one-time Editor of the Daily and Sunday Observer and Silumina and Editor-in-chief of Lake House. The Award is presented to a journalist under the age of 25 years.
