The lad from Nuwara Eliya K. Prabhagaran exploited his home turf to the Tee when he bagged his second Sri Lanka amateur title by beating Shakhawat Sohel of Bangladesh by nine shots at the 122nd Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Championship at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Course yesterday.
Prabhagaran who earlier combined with K.A. Chandradasa to win the Parlakimedi Trophy and the Pakistan Sri Lanka duel the Zia-ul-Haq Trophy withstood the vagaries of a typical bad Nuwara Eliya day with mist and cold to shoot a one-under-par 69 and complete a level par 280 at the end of the tournament.
The third place was taken by Tissa Chandradasa who had a round of 290.
Earlier Prabhagaran won this event in 2003. Reigning champion Mithun Perera now training for the Australian open did not take part in this year’s competition.
Malaysia’s Nurul Syahirah won the ladies title by beating Shyanika Fernando 3 and 1 in the final. |
