Deshan and Oshada guide Sebs to fourth win

Openers Deshan Dias and Oshada Fernando guided St. Sebastian’s to their fourth outright win for the season and thus helped the side to record a four wicket win over Isipathana in their Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter at the BRC ground yesterday.

Deshan and Oshada gave a solid start to the Sebs who were chasing 185 runs for victory as they put on 117 runs before they were separated. Deshan made 67 while Oshada chipped in with 59.

The morning session’s play on the second day saw the Isipathana resuming from their overnight score of 60 for 2, going on to make 195. This was in contrast to their low score of 96 which they made in the first inning.

The Havelock Park boys were guided by useful knocks from Irfan Rahim, skipper Thivanka Ranasinghe and Dimitri Perera. Unlike the opening day’s play where the bowlers dominated proceedings with 22 wickets taking a tumble.

The second day was just the opposite as it belonged to the batsmen from both the sides. Meanwhile Isipathana spinner Anushka Samaratunga put in another fine bowling performance capturing six wickets and two in the second innings which took his tally to 121 wickets and he looks set to break the existing record of 134 wickets in a season.

Dulanjana steers Wesley

Wesley skipper Dulanjana Wijesinghe steered his side to an easy 113 runs win over Zahira at Maradana yesterday. Dulanjana having made 83 in the first inning followed it up with an unbeaten 122 which had 15 boundaries and three sixes.

Dulanjana’s match winning knock turned the game in Wesley’s favour as Zahira chasing 288 runs for victory were able to muster only 184. This was Wesley’s third outright win for the season.

DSS recorded their second successive outright win when they crushed Kalutara MV by a massive 189 runs at Wijerama Mawatha yesterday.

Kalutara MV set a target of 270 runs for victory were able to muster only 80 runs and they lasted only 22 overs to give DSS their third outright win for the season.

Second successive win for DSS

The writing was on the wall for Kalutara MV when play began on day two. Resuming from their overnight score of 105 for 8 they were able to add only another six runs before being bowled out for 111 with Malshan Gunasinghe doing the damage.

DSS batted well the second time as well. Chamod Wickremasinghe who made 61 with eight boundaries and a six and Charith Satharasinghe who made 53 with nine boundaries. This pair put together a partnership of 105 runs for the third wicket and helped DSS to declare their innings on 182 for 4.

Revatha MMV outclass St. Aloysius

Revatha MMV Balapitiya outclassed St. Aloysius Galle by 137 runs at Balapitiya yesterday. The heros of Revatha MMV’s win were right arm pacie Janik Chathuranga and left arm spinner Shehan Manuran who shared eight wickets between them to bowl out the Aloysians, who were chasing 263, to a low score of 125.

Denham and Angelo lead Petes fight back

Denham Perera with 111 and Angelo Emmanuel (99) led St. Peter’s fight back against Royal in their inter-school match which ended in a draw at Reid Avenue yesterday.

Denham and Angelo put on a partnership of 190 runs for the third wicket helping the Peterites batting the second time with a deficit of 183 runs end the day on 271 for 8.

Royal spinner Maneesha Tantrigoda who had figures of 8 for 32 followed it up with another five wickets to end the game with a match bag of 13 for 130.

Earlier in the day Royal resuming from their overnight score of 232 for 2 went on to make a formidable 338 for 3 with overnight batsmen Imal Liyanage made 122 with 11 boundaries and two sixes and Madusha Rajaratne made an unbeaten 67. The pair was associated in a 140 runs stand for the third wicket.
