Another tame draw at Moratuwa

As expected the 60th Battle of the Gold’s between Prince of Wales and St Sebastian’s concluded at De Zoysa Stadium in Moratuwa ended in a tame draw. The proceedings of the second days play yesterday gave the impression of this final outcome.

St Sebastian’s who were 47 for 3 overnight struggled for survival in the morning session as they ultimately went into lunch with the score on 123 for 8. Resuming after lunch they batted a good part of the post lunch session before being bowled out for 157 in reply to the Cambrians 185.

Cambrians batting the second time going in for quick runs was boosted by knocks of 54 and 61 by Nipun Peiris and all rounder Shehan Jayasuriya enabling them make a declaration after making 167 for 6 in just 35.2 overs. Sebs set an impossible target of 196 running out of time ended the day batting seven overs for 23.
