Veteran journalist, lyricist, teledrama director and assistant filmmaker, Rodney Vidanapathirana’s latest telefilm, ‘Ananthaya’ a story based on a family separated after the Tsunami disaster in 2004, is to be screened abroad.
A tragedy of a mother after the loss of her child is to take the viewer to reflect on the reality of life that aligns with Buddhist teaching. A story concept by Vimal Alahakone, an engineer based in England, the teledrama features Seetha Kumari, Ananda Wickrema, Maureen Charuni, Murie Samarasinghe, Rebecca Nirmali, Inoka Perera and many others.
Camera is handled by Saman Sigera, music directed by Visharadha Manoj Peiris and editing is edited by Jagath Weeratunga, Naradha Dhananji handled the make up in ‘Ananthaya’. ‘In television or cinema, my main aim is make an artistically rich direction,’ said Rodney speaking to the TV Times.
‘Ananthaya’ is an attempt to take the valuable teachings of Buddhism abroad. Therefore the teledrama will be subtitled in English and we hope to show in a number of foreign countries,’ he said.
Another important feature of this teledrama is that well-known Specialist Physician, Ariyasena U. Gamage also plays a role in the teleplay. The whole drama revolves around a surgery maintained in a hospital and the contribution made by Dr. Gamage in writing the dialogues and making the characters was immense, Rodney said with gratitude.
Started with ‘Udawediya Mal’, Rodney has directed six teledramas including ‘Sapa Nokaraw Dharuwane’, ‘Wanapasa Mal’, ‘Hathe Wasama’, ‘Hemanthaye Wasanthayak’, ‘Ridi Tharaka’ and ‘Hima Piyali’. He also has worked as an assistant director in Sena Samarasinghe’s ‘Chanchala Rekha’ and Shirley P. Wijeratne’s ‘Welle Thenu Maliga’. With the experienced he gained as an assistant director, Rodney made his own film ‘Shilpa Denu Mena’ but it was stopped halfway due number unavoidable circumstances. Rodney a multitalented artiste is well-known for his versatility in writing lyrics.
There are a large number of singers who have sung some of their hits to Rodney’s catchy words. Some of them include Vijaya Kumaratuge’s ‘Karamba Yaye’, Jagatha Wickremasinghe’s ‘Sagara Tharanga’, Nirosha Virajani’s ‘Sanda Rajini’ and Nimal Gunasekara’s ‘Prema Maya Dele’. |
