El-Niño and La-Niña
“The floods had taken his body that high,” Puncha reminded his sister about the recent bad rains.“But why so much rains at this time..?” Panchi wanted to know.. “La Niña,” Puncha proudly shouted what he had seen on TV earlier. “La… WHAT…??” Little Panchi didn’t know what it was. “La Niña, – this is something that happened in the Pacific Ocean which brought heavy rains to Sri Lanka.”
 
Sri Lanka's Independence movement

The Independence movement in Sri Lanka was a peaceful political movement which aimed at achieving independence and self rule for Ceylon from the British Empire. It was initiated around the turn of the 20th century, led mostly by the educated middle class. Ultimately on February 4, 1948, Ceylon was granted independence as the Dominion of Ceylon.
