Flower flair
Flowers are synonymous with romance. So come December and the season of
weddings, flowers are virtually indispensable. And if you're one of those
starry-eyed brides-to-be, you're probably dreaming
of roses and baby's breath for that all-important bouquet
Janaki de Soysa of Flowers of Summer fame is a floral designer much
in demand these days but you won't find roses and baby's breath pictured
in the striking bouquets created here especially for the Mirror Magazine.
"Creativity is what it's all about," says Janaki, who believes in designing
her bouquets in accordance with the bride's outfit, rather than taking
the idea straight off a magazine. She loves using local flowers and greenery
to turn out unusual bouquets that become a focal point in the bride's ensemble.
Brides these days are all asking for posies and clusters of flowers
tightly packed together. These are more suited to Western attire but they're
all the rage here even with the saree , says Janaki, adding that some,
however are quite ready to try something different. So just as colourful
bridals are in vogue, eclipsing the traditional white, maybe it's time
for flowers with a difference too.
The models' hair, make-up and dressing were by Ramani Fernando and staff.
All bouquets and head-dresses were created by Janaki de Soysa.
