Lots of new faces

Sri Lanka's twelfth Parliament will have 36 new faces _ 16 from the UNP,
12 PA members, six TULF members and two SLMC.
The UNP newcomers are Mano Ganeshan, Lakshman Wijemanne, Olitha Premathiratne,
Chitra Manthilake, .K. K. Piyadasa, Sanjeewa Kaviratne, Justin Galappatty,
Ananda Abeywickrama, Jayantha Jayaweera, Mary Larine Perera, Sugath Tissera,
Anura Gopallawa, Sidney Jayaratne, Ananda Kumarasiri, A.A. Wijetunge and
Abdul Risath Badiudeen.
The PA first timers are former Sri Lankan cricket captain Arjuna Ranatunga,
Rohitha Abeygunawardhane, Sarana Gunawardhane, Thilina Bandara Tennakoon,
D.M.S.K. Dassanayake, Mallika de Mel, Ven. Baddegama Samitha, S.M. Chandrasena,
Ananda Sarath Kumara, D.D.W. Wickremaratne, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya and
Ashoka Jayawardhane.
The freshers representing the TULF are Thambirasa Thangavadivel, Chandranesan
Ariyanayagam, G. Gajendrkumar Ponnambalam, Nadarajah Raviraj, M.K. Sivalingam
and Nadesan Shivashakthi Anandan.
The two SLMC freshers are Habeeb Ismail Mohomed Ismail and Anwer Ismail
Mohomed Ismail.
More new faces are expected from the national list and from the JVP.
The JVP won 13 seats and three from the national list. According to party
ethics, it is the politburo that will nominate all 16 irrespective of any
preferences.
Polls 2001: the elected MPs
The following is the list of 196 members elected at Wednesday's elections
and the preference votes they received.
The National List allocations of 29 members were not made available
until last afternoon. Meanwhile the JVP is likely to replace the elected
members with their own nominees.
