Aravinda Premadasa, proved himself yet again with a magnificent display of guts and skill winning the Motor Cars Group M over 1665 cc in his Havoline Subaru Impreza. Also as a result of action seen at the recently held Katukurunda races, to the crowd this was the much-awaited event.

But action continued as, spectators rose to their feet in a moment of sheer thrill to see two Havoline cars in tough competition, the other being none other than Nalin Perera also of Team Caltex who also as usual displayed his wit at the sport. Each of the 13 members of the new panels will go into these series very well prepared, following their intensive induction at the recent Umpires and Referees Conference in Cape Town", commented ICC Chief Executive Officer Malcolm Speed. "They have been selected for their skills, experience and standing in the game and I have every confidence that they will bring new levels of authority and consistent decision making to the game", he added.

The new umpiring and refereeing panel system is effective from 1st April, but for practical reasons the ongoing series between South Africa and Australia and New Zealand and England will continue to operate under the existing panel system.
