Cycle tour de
Jaffna
Some 18 weeks after guns fell silent in the battlefield of the north,
domestic tourism is booming in a big way.
It is not just
the southerners who are storming the Jaffna peninsula and its environs
to see life there after the bloody wars. An enterprising group has
now begun to organise cycle tours.
The group plans
to meet up in Vavuniya on May 23 and leave for Jaffna the following
day along the A9 road.
They will travel
by bicycle up to Puliyankulam, about 20 kilometres from Vavuniya,
and thereafter take a ride by truck to Elephant Pass where they
begin their ride again to Jaffna.
They will ride
pass the Forward Defence Line to Mirusuvil or Chavakachcheri and
camp on the beach.
On Saturday
they plan to ride to Jaffna, cross over to Kayts island and camp
out on Sunday, ride to Point Pedro and plan to camp at a rest house
or at a nearby location.
On Monday they
plan to ride down along the coastal road to Elephant Pass, cross
to Kilinochchi and move to Vavuniya.
