World Cup inspires 23 songs
Pop Idol" Will Young edged his way to the top of the UK singles chart this week. It is a significant honour since it is also the Jubilee Weekend which marked the 50th anniversary of the Queen's accession.

Will Young's new hit is a cover of the Doors classic 'Light My Fire'. The song is Young's second straight No:1 in the UK following his debut release 'Anything Is Possible/Evergreen' which has so far sold 1.8 million copies.

It will be impossible for the 23-year-old singer to either better or duplicate the success of his former No:1 song with 'Light My Fire'. He had picked the song for his second release since he had performed it at the "Pop Idol" heats.

'Light My Fire' was written and recorded by the Doors. The song became a No:1 hit in the US in 1967 but in the UK it only managed to peak at No: 49. The re-issue was part of the Doors biopic promotion.

With the World Cup football tournament on in Korea/Japan, the songs connected with the game have been battling for supremacy. According to the chart compilers, there are 23 different songs to mark the World Cup.

This week the official England anthem for the event 'We Are On The Ball' by Ant And Dec entered the chart at the No:3 position.

TV presenters Ant And Dec have re-written the old Arsenal Football team's 1970 song. Though it seems a wacky song, its release is part of the enthusiasm generated during the World Cup (of course right up to the point England are eliminated).

Former Black Sabbath member Ozzy Osbourne notched up his third solo Top 20 hit in the UK as his double A side single 'Dreamer /Gets Me Through' checked in at No:18. The lead track 'Dreamer' is a ballad. Ozzy's two previous Top 20 hits were 'So Tired' in 1984 and 'Shot In The Dark' in 1986.

Osborne performed at Buckingham Palace at the Queen's 50th anniversary Pop/ Rock concert.

Eminem may swear, curse, and what have you in his songs. However, when it comes to his daughter, a line is drawn with his own music.

The rapper who featured his six-year-old daughter Hailie on the track 'My Dad's Gone Crazy', insists she listens to cleaner versions of his songs.
