When the Lion King roared
The Lion King - A children's theatre adaptation presented by the Anne Wijesinghe School of Speech & Drama - was held on June 29 at the Lionel Wendt auditorium.

The large cast worked out the story of the Lion King with energy and style. The gorgeous costumes ensured a riot of colour as lions, lionesses, hyenas, zebras, deer, monkeys, birds, butterflies, bumble bees and antelopes together with a host of other characters set the stage ablaze with their performances.

Right from the opening scene of the circle of life right through the lioness hunt, stampede, Rafeeki's mourning, to the conclusion, the children displayed talent and commitment way beyond their years. All in all it was a memorable evening at the theatre for the young and old.

Malinga Goonetilleke played adult Simba while Dilshan De Silva was young Simba. Others featured were Minoli Weerasinghe as Adult Nala, Shehani Hewawasam as young Nala, Nishadee Dissanayake as Mufasa, Upeksha Perera as Scar, Shimara Dissanayake as Sarabi, Shashi Kariawasam as Zazu, Kalana de Silva as Rafeeki, Zainab Shiraz as Benzai, Tarini de Silva as Shenzi, Sandaru Hettiarachchi as Ed (the three main Hyenas), Maithree Perera as Timon and Trishan Fernando as Pumba.
