to enhance IT skills
Mahinda
College, Galle held an exhibition in its school premises to mark
the 110th anniversary from July 4 to 6, 2002. ARENA Multimedia Education
Centre, Wellawatte operated by Mackwoods Infotec (Pvt) Ltd participated
in this exhibition on a special invitation by Mahinda College.
Many school
children in the Southern Province had an opportunity to explore
the world of Multimedia. ARENA offered special packages for those
who visited the stall to enhance their IT skills in Multimedia Education.

first Education Institute in Sri Lanka to introduce Multimedia Education
to the children in remote schools in the country Mackwoods Infotec

Mackwoods Infotec
participated in the DEST 2002 exhibition organized by the science
Faculty of University of Colombo from June 20 to 23, 2002 with its
two training centres ARENA Multimedia and APTECH Computer Education.
ARENA &
APTECH, provided the visitors with some useful guidance in selecting
their careers in IT & Multimedia fields. Mackwoods Infotec's
stall was one of the most attractive among the others.

B Siya Savi Draw II
L B Finance held its 2nd 'Siya Savi' branded Deposit draw
recently at the OPA Auditorium under the patronage of their Chairman
Deshamanya Dr. W M Tilakaratna.
'Siya Savi'
scheme had been introduced in 1999, as a scheme to help the depositors
to accept a fixed income at the end of a one year term and to avoid
any fluctuation of rates of interest during that tenure. 'Siya Savi'
was operated on a discounted basis where the interest was paid up
front.
Depositors
were allowed to obtain certificates in multiples of Rs. 10,000/-
and were entitled to an annual draw. The winners were given an additional
certificate to the value of the existing certificate.
L B Finance
is now considering the introduction of this kind of deposit schemes
to help their customers to hedge against the fluctuation of interest
rates.
NTB takes over
American Express Bank
Nations
Trust Bank announced that an Agreement was signed last week with
American Express Bank, for the takeover of their Sri Lanka Branch
operations a press release said. The actual transaction will be
effected on the receipt of the necessary Central Bank of Sri Lanka
approvals.
Moksevi Prelis,
CEO/Director of Nations Trust Bank stated that "We are indeed
pleased to be associated with such a prestigious name in the Global
Financial Services Industry and gratified that they have identified
Nations as a partner that they want to work with.
I am sure that
this partnership will prove mutually fruitful and will grow from
strength to strength."
The CEO further
added that this acquisition was in line with their expansion strategy
focusing on Retail and that it positions the Bank for significant
growth in the next few years.
It is envisaged
that the current branch of Amex at Dharmapala Mawatha, will continue
as a full service Branch of Nations Trust.
The Foreign
Exchange Centres at Dharmapala Mawatha and the four Travel Agencies
(Gabo Travels, Cey Can, Hemtours and Jetwing) will also continue
to provide the same products and services such as Travellers' Cheques,
Foreign Currency and Credit Cards services.
Nations Trust
acquired the businesses of Waldock Mackenzie and the Kandy branch
business of the Standard Chartered Grindlays Bank last month.
Premadasa Group
introduces plastic cards
Premadasa
Group (Pvt.) Ltd. which has been in the printing industry since1943
have introduced Plastic Cards to its product portfolio a press release
said. They have set up a manufacturing unit which can produce Plastic
Identity, Membership, Credit and Bank ATM Cards. The company uses
its latest HP 'Indigo' digital offset Press for printing high quality
Plastic Cards. This is the only such machine in Sri Lanka. The machine
is capable of printing magazine quality copies instantly.
The cards are
manufactured using imported PVC material to meet international standards.
They have also mastered the technique of producing telephone and
lottery cards with scratch off panels. This is a growing market
both locally and internationally.

Award winners felicitated
Mobitel felicitated the gold award winners when the National
Chamber of Exporters celebrated 10 years of export excellence at
the recently concluded Annual Exporters' Awards 2001 a press release
said.
Mobitel was
one of the principal sponsors for the occasion and presented free
mobile phones to those most outstanding exporters who took home
gold awards in their respective sectors.
One of the
primary objectives of holding the Annual Export Awards was to recognize
and encourage the small, medium, large and extra large exporters

A
motoring treat
The Motor Club Show was a motoring treat never previously
seen in this country.
The show was
held from 23rd to the 25th August at the Exhibition and Convention
Centre. Consisting of some 110 vehicles, the show was splendidly
put together by the Motor & Trading Post magazine. The concept
of this type of Show is new to Sri Lanka.
Nimal Wimalasuriya,
the managing director of the publishing company that publishes the
Motor & Trading Post says that shows such as these are regularly
held in other countries; and Nimal had obviously drawn on his experience
of such Shows in other countries.
It was a Show
of vehicles and activities of the various motoring clubs and groups
in Sri Lanka. The motoring clubs and groups are either one-make
clubs such as the Mighty Mini Club of Sri Lanka or a grouping of
a particular era of vehicles such as the Vintage Car Owner's Club.
The print media sponsors of the Motor Club Show were the Sunday
Times and Daily Mirror.
LIBM to commence
operations
Lanka
Institute of Business Management (LIBM) Pvt Ltd. will commence its
operations on September 4 with an opening ceremony.
Karunasena
Kodothuwakku Minister of Human Resource Development, Education &
Cultural Affairs will be the Chief Guest and Bandula Gunawardena
Minister, Rural Economy Development will be the guest of honour.
The Institute
will conduct courses leading to a diploma in Business Management.
