Insurance scheme for artistes
By Ranjith Bandara Attanayake
Sri Lanka National Film Corporation is to present
insurance policies to artistes and technicians in the film field,
who had contributed their services to three or more Sinhala films.
Under this
programme Rs. 100,000 (Hundred Thousand) will be donated for Medical
Aid, Rs. 200,000 on an occasion of the demise of an artiste and
Rs. 350,000 if an artiste dies following an accident.
In addition,
all films produced and screened in Sri Lanka will be preserved in
a specially constructed laboratory which will be able to print new
copies of Sinhala films adopting 'Deug' technology system. New copies
can be printed using damaged film negatives through this technology.
'Sarasavi' film studio at Dalugama will be affiliated to 'Prasad'
movie laboratory, Madras as an integrated studio service for fifteen
years.
Moreover, steps
are underway to acquire Elphinstone Threatre, Maradana by the Sri
Lanka National Film Corporation and screen films regularly for public.
Lido Theatres in Colombo and Wembley Theatre in Kandy and another
film theatre from each main city will be taken over by the National
Film Corporation Circuit.
Steps will
be taken to limit the number of foreign films imported by the private
sector to protect the screening duration of local films up to 60
percent. Accordingly, private companies will be permitted to import
only 100 English, 45 Tamil, 15 Hindi films and 10 other films per
year. When importing films under 'Adults only' label it should not
exceed 25%.
A film Festival
of old Sinhala films too will be held sponsored by the Film Corporation
from 22-11-2002 to 28-11-2002 to raise funds for the Welfare Insurance
Scheme intended for film artistes and technicians.
A ceremony
will be held to present these Insurance Policies to the first batch

'Who's
The Boss'
Being
a father is tough, being a single father is even tougher. One who
doubles as a live-in housekeeper is tougher still. But handling
these responsibilities in a household where your boss is also your
best friend makes up for it... on "Who's the Boss?"
Several years
ago Tony Micelli's (Tony Danza) world was turned upside down when
an injury forced his early retirement from major league baseball,
and his beloved wife passed away. Not one to give up, Tony was determined
to put his life back on the track and prove he could earn a living
and raise his then pre-teen daughter, Samantha (Alyssa Milano) like
any other loving, conscientious parent.
Coincidently,
Angela Bower (Judith Light) was having problems of her own in suburban
Connecticut. A high powered executive, she was leading a frenetic
life - too chaotic to simulataneously pursue a career, run household
and properly raise her seven-year-old son, Jonathan.
To make matters
worse, Angela's household skills were modest, to say the least.
While it took some convincing by Angela's free-spirited, mischievous
live-in mother, Mona Robinson, Angela realized the solution to her
problem and the answer to Tony's dilemma were one and the same.
