Sing-Along
with Sam the Man
Another
glorious Sing-Along comes alive when Sam The Man is on stage on
Saturday October 5 at 7.00 pm at the BMICH.
If you are
a fan of Elvis Presley, Tony Brent, Cliff Richards, The Platters,
Jim Reeves then make a date with Sam the Man.
The Golden Oldies of yesteryear, compiled into a booklet will be
given to every participant at the entrance. In addition to your
requests, Sam will also have a short session of music for dancing
where the dance lovers can do the Cha Cha, Jive, Waltz, Samba, Rock
& Roll - and our very own Baila too.
This will be
another memorable Sing-Along judging by the success of last year's
show organized by Zonta Club I of Colombo in aid of their numerous
social service projects.
Funds generated
from this Sing-Along will also greatly benefit ''Meth Sevena'' -
the Remand Refugee Home in Gangodawila. "Meth Sevana"
currently houses 407 women and 47 children among whom are 6 pregnant
mothers and 12 mothers with new-born babies.

Night' tonight
'Victories
Night II' a musical extravaganza, organised by Our Lady of Victories
Convent, Moratuwa will come alive at the Buddhist Hall Moratuwa
tonight.
Rajive Sebastian,
Saman de Silva, Nirosha Virajini, Champa Kalhari, Senanayake Weraliyadda,
Shanika Wanigasekera and Bathiya, Santush, will be featured at this
show.
'Saman and
the Clan' will provide the music, while popular dancers will add
glamour to the show. Tickets are priced at Rs. 1000/=, 500/=, and
Rs. 200/= now available at the gate
Lalith
F. on 'Star Parade'
Ex-Moonstone Lalith Fernando will be featured on SLBC's
"Sri Lankan Star Parade" on September 29 at 1.00 p.m.
Lalith Fernando,
the former Lead Singer and the Leader of the Moonstones that later
turned to be one of Sri Lanka's leading and popular Western Bands
will be featured on popular weekly programme 'Sri Lankan Star Parade'
produced by Nalin de Silva and presented by Bevil Palihawadana.
Lalith will
be singing a few new Sinhala originals such as "Pa Mal Sina",
"Rubara Niliya" and "Maggie Nandei" which are
now frequently requested and already very popular on the various
Sinhala Channels.
"Maggie
Nandei" composed and sung in the tempo and style of that ever
popular "Mango Kalu Nandei" is a song describing Maggie's
different qualities to that of sister Mango whilst "Pa Mal
Sina" is already in the Sinhala charts.
Moonstone fans
will remember Lalith for his versatile and easy style of singing
both Sinhala and Western songs and would no doubt be looking forward
to listen to Lalith's singing after a lapse of a couple of years.
'Tharaka
Geethika'
"Tharaka
Geethika", a star-spangled musical show to mark the 250th edition
of the "Sawanata Gee Madhu" television programme telecast
on Thursdays over TNL, will be held at the Elphinstone Theatre,
Maradana on Friday, October 4 at 6.30 p.m.
Veteran Filmstar
Gamini Fonseka and Minister Karunasena Kodituwakku will be the Chief
Guests at the show. The show is open for the public free of charge
said a spokesman for the organisers.
The spokesman
added that the highlight will be the distribution of special felicitation
awards to 250 personalities including bhikkus, intellectuals, media
persons, vocalists, film stars, musicians, film directors, sportsmen
and women and others who have featured in interviews over the 'Sawanata
Gee Madhu' programme over the last five years.
Over 60 remowned
vocalists will perform to the music of the 'Super Stars' band. Dance
items will be provided by students of the Budawatta, Channa Wijewardene,
Chandana Wickramsinghe and Rajini Selvanayagam Dancing Institutes
as well as Rangana Ariyadasa, Anusha Damayanthi and Nilanthi Dias.
Members of
the audience are in for many surprises including gift packs of soap
and other toiletries and free books and novels.
The Spokesman
said the 'Sawanata Gee Madhu' which has established a record as
a sponsored programme telecast over the longest period is presented
by popular Radio-TV personality Srimath Indrajith Liyanage and Produced
by S.A. Bennett.
Special episodes
in the 'Tharaka Geetha' programme will be telecast live from time
to time on TNL on the same day, while 'Hiru' and 'Sha' F.M. Radios
will offer a live broadcast of the entire show.
'Josephian
Ball 2000'
'Josephian
Ball 2002', the Annual Dinner Dance organised by the Old Boys Union
of St. Joseph's College, Colombo will be held on October 5 (Saturday)
9.00 p.m. onwards at Golden Ballroom of Colombo Hilton.
The bands Sohan
& the X'Periments, Misty and WildFire along with Sunil and Corrinne
will be on the bandstand at the Josephian Ball.
"It is
no doubt another grand fiesta in the Josephian Events Calendar.
However there will be more events, prizes and surprises in this
year's dance said Sunil Dharmaratne who is the Chairman of the organising
committee.
