No Lankan base
for Iraq attack: PM
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe told Parliament on Friday that
the question of allowing US planes or ships to re-fuel or use local
ports or airport in the event of an attack on Iraq did not arise
as Sri Lanka had no defence pact with the Americans.
He was responding
to a question by the PA's Baddegame Samitha Thera relating to The
Sunday Times (May 26) news report headlined "Defence pact with
Washington soon".
The Prime Minster
said he would not deny the news story or the government intention
to come to a defence pact with the US but assured that all party
leaders would be briefed on the details before such an agreement
was finalised.
