Electronic system
bugs parliament
The 55 million-rupee sound system installed in Parliament's chamber
still continues to cause problems both for those operating it and
MPs. Several legislators have complained that the mikes are not
turned on when they speak and hence some of their speeches in Parliament
have gone unrecorded.
The electronic
voting system is also yet to be used after its installation more
than a year ago. Despite the heavy cost of the electronic system,
the head count continues to be taken manually.
Meanwhile, another
problem has arisen over the electronic cards that 750 employees
of parliament are expected to swipe to register their presence and
coordinate work in case of emergency.
Employees say
the access-control machines have not been functioning for more than
a week during an important period when the committee stage debate
on the budget is going on daily and even on Saturdays.
