Ex-beauty queen as new ambassador to Malaysia
Former Mrs. World Rosie Senanayake will be Sri Lanka's next High Commissioner in Malaysia. Her appointment is to be officially announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs any time now, having obtained the nod from President Chandrika Kumaratunga.

W M P B Menikdiwela, whose nomination as Sri Lanka's Ambassador to Japan was earlier rejected by the President, is having his case re-considered and is tipped to be confirmed in the job. However, no formal decision has been made yet on 82-year-old Mr. Menikdiwela, former Secretary to the late President J R Jayewardene.

Ms. Senanayake was earlier favoured to be envoy to Malaysia, though her name was only recommended by the Foreign Ministry to President Kumaratunga as envoy to Malaysia last week. Meanwhile, Sonali Samarasinghe, a journalist studying in Australia, has been appointed Information Counsellor at the Sri Lankan High Commission in Canberra.
