Studio
9's male models shine

National franchise holders for 10 international pageants,
including Ms. World and Man Hunt International, Studio 9 has sent
delegates to major international contests around the
world. Many of them have made their mark at these shows, doing the
country proud.
Roshan Massillamany
(21), one of Studio 9's best so far, bagged seventh place out of
50 participants, at Man Hunt International 2002, held in Shanghai,
China. Roshan is the first Lankan male model to be placed within
the top 10 and headed the Asian sector.
It's no easy
task preparing for an international pageant and Roshan says he had
to make quite a few sacrifices to cope with the rigorous training
required.
"I remember,
on my first day at rehearsals, I turned up in slippers and was sent
home to wear something more suitable," he said laughing. "I
didn't understand it fully then, but I do now as it was all to do
with the disciplining and grooming process."
Man Hunt International,
a 'search for the ultimate male' had been quite a tough competition.
The judges had taken into consideration the participant's physique,
interaction with others, ability to face the camera, height etc.
Each contestant had to undergo a one-to-one interview as well. The
final decision was then made based on all these criteria.
"The experience
was amazing and I'm very lucky as not many people get such a novel
opportunity. I met so many people from different cultures and backgrounds
and made quite a few new friends too," said Roshan.
"I've
been offered a modelling contract in Europe and I hope to take this
up, if all goes well. The ingredients to the making of a good model
are a lot of support, perseverance and lots of hard work,"
he says.
The panel of
judges comprised many famous fashion and television personalities,
including the Editor of Elle Magazine, France and the Super Model
of the World 2001.
Other Studio
9 contestants taking part in other world pageants have also had
a taste of success. Roshan Fernando won two titles, for Best National
Costume and also the Best Friendship award at the Best Model of
the World Pageant 2002, Turkey, among 60 contestants. Nemantha Abeysinghe
won Mr. Congeniality and was runner-up in Best National Costume
at Mr. Tourism International 2002, Panama. Arjuna Senanayake was
placed runner up in the National Costume segment at Mr. Grasim International
held in Delhi last year.
Studio 9's
Subashini Dias Abeygunawardene was awarded the National Director's
Award 2002 at Man Hunt International for successfully organising
the annual national pageant and all other duties carried out by
a National Director.
