Ashly say, Moragoda
do
Economic
Reforms Minister Milinda Moragoda says that when the US Ambassador
asks him to do things, he does not reason why, he just does it.
Startling Sri
Lankans by attending a meeting of the re-launch of the US-based
International Executive Service Corps (IECS), a body that promotes
volunteer executives and consultants committed to promoting free
enterprise worldwide at the World Trade Center, Mr. Moragoda, who
was not originally listed to attend the function, said he was due
to attend the function and was only there because the US Ambassador
had told him to come.
"But when
the US Ambassador asks you to come, you don't ask why. You just
come", Mr. Moragoda said. "It was only after I came here,
that I asked Ashly (US Ambassador Ashly Wills) what this event was.
Then he told me that it was the launch of the IECS programme",
he added.
Mr. Moragoda
recently told a seminar in Hawaii that the US should welcome its
hegemon role as the worlds undisputed leader.
Meanwhile, Foreign
Minister Tyronne Fernando detailed the ill-effects on the Sri Lankan
economy of an outbreak of a US led-war against Iraq during a meeting
with Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa in Cairo this week.
In Sri Lanka,
emergency meetings were held at the Tea Board as tea prices plummeted
and the Government announced plans to prop the beleaguered tea industry
in the wake of another possible Gulf war.
