Chats over tea: No comment on Mobitel deal

Finance Minister K.N. Choksy chats to Rohan Fernando, chairman of the new Tea Association of Sri Lanka (TASL), and Plantations Minister Lakshman Kiriella during last week's inauguration of the TASL which brings together tea producers, sellers and brokers. Choksy has remained mum on allegations by Siemens, the German electronics company, that there were improper tender dealings on the part of Sri Lanka Telecom and its mobile phone subsidiary, Mobitel. The tender called for offers to modernise Mobitel's telecommunications infrastructure. Siemens complained to Choksy on the matter but the minister has not responded to the German company nor has this newspaper been able to reach him despite many calls to his office.
