Female
artistes steal the limelight
Pearl
Jam leader Eddie Vedder shocked fans at a concert last week in Denver,
Colorado, USA by illustrating his anti-war stance by wearing a mask
of President Bush. Vedder's anti-war stance was highlighted as Pearl
Jam performed the song 'Bushleaguer' taken from the new album 'Riot
Act'.
Fans of the
band - at least some of them - stormed out of venue in protest.
Pearl Jam's management declined to comment on the matter.
The alternative
rock band in Australia
called Triple J, has aired certain songs from the new Radiohead
'Hail To The Thief". The radio station's director admitted
playing leaked tracks from the award winning band's forthcoming
album.
The radio station
contacted Radiohead's record label EM to admit to the airing of
the songs that had been posted on the Internet.
Triple J's
director felt the Radiohead album was special and that they just
wanted to air the songs. EMI agreed and no further legal action
was necessary. The station said it would not air the Raidohead tracks
from 'Hail To The Thief' again.
For a second
week 'Make Luv' by
Room 5 featuring Oliver Chetham is the No: 1 song in the UK. Several
of the No: 1 singles have spent more than a week at the helm of
the chart. But for the current No: 1 in particular it is a different
scenario. The singles market is rather quiet.
The highest
new entry of the week
is 'Love Doesn't Have To Hurt' by Atomic Kitten. The song debuted
in the chart at No: 4.
In 2001 Atomic
Kitten covered the Bangles 'Eternal Flame'. The song topped the
chart.
Now with 'Love Doesn't Have To Hurt' the group has the Bangles lead
singer Susannah Hoffs as co-writer coupled with a catchy mid tempo
beat - giving it enough measure to chart.
Ronan Keating
had predicted that Atomic Kitten would be a write-off by December
2002. This is mid-April 2003, and apparently the girls have some
talent or ammunition left with them.
Canadian teenage
pop star
Avril Lavigne has splashed her new single 'I'm with You' at the
No: 7 position this week. There are some very interesting comments
about Avril Lavigne's musical abilities.
On April 6,
Avril Lavigne swept the Junos awards in Canada. The Junos awards
are the Canadian equivalent to the US Grammy.
Canadian country
singer Shania Twain won 3 awards including Artist of the Year. The
group Sum 41 won the Junos for Group of the Year.
Mario is a
new US
star.
His debut single
from the R & B scene entered the UK chart at No: 18. Mario is
15-years-old and was picked out by the famous Clive Davies, the
head of RCA. It was Clive Davies who made Santana and Whitney Houston
stars.
Sir Paul McCartney
mounted a damage control exercise by explaining his position over
the reverse credits of Beatles songs.
There appeared
to be some rumblings about Sir Paul's decision to reverse the song
credits to read McCartney-Lennon.
The 60-year-old
former Beatle told the Daily Mirror - the UK morning tabloid that
it was to let people know that the songs he (McCartney) sings today
are his own.
Sir Paul said
he wanted to set the record straight. He said he was a great fan
of John Lennon.
