diploma for Lankan Navy Commodore
Navy Commodore Thisara S.G. Samarasinghe graduated from the Asia-Pacific
Center for Security Studies Executive Course in Honolulu this week.
Commodore Samarasinghe
received his diploma from retired US Marine Corps Lieutenant General
Hank C. Stackpole, president of the Center. Commodore Samarasinghe
joined 87 other senior military and civilian government leaders
from 32 countries throughout the Asia-Pacific region that attended
the 12 week course to study regional security.
The Asia Pacific
centre for Security Studies is a US Department of Defence regional
study, conference and research centre. The centre's mission is to
enhance cooperation and build relationships through mutual understanding
and study of comprehensive security issues among military and civilian
representatives of the US and Asia--Pacific nations.
Countries represented
at this course were Bangladesh, Bhutan, Comoros, East Timor, Fiji,
India, Indonesia, Japan, Kiribati, Laos, Madagascar, Malaysia, Maldives,
Mauritius, Micronesia, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Palau,
Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Russia, Sri Lanka,
Taiwan, Thailand, Tonga, Tuvalu, United States, Vanuatu and Vietnam.
The Executive
Course students discussed national policy, and how the economic,
diplomatic, political, cultural and military elements of power affect
stability and security of the region as a whole. |
