Soldier
hit by mystery gas
The military has launched an investigation into the case of a soldier
falling ill after he is suspected to have inhaled a poisonous smoke
while being deployed at a Forward Defence Line (FDL) in the Welioya
area.
Military Spokesman
Sanath Karunaratne told The Sunday Times a blood sample of the soldier
who had been hospitalised on Monday had been sent to the Medical
Research Institute (MRI) in Colombo but the doctors' strike had
delayed the test.
The soldier
identified as K. Samankumara was in a bunker at Andankulam, an area
located close to the border where the 1-4 (one-four) base believed
to be used at one time by LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran is
located. He has heard a sound of a launching seconds before he was
affected by the mystery smoke. |
