India
tells TULF to check LTTE
India has urged the TULF to stop supporting the LTTE's hardline
position and to use its influence to end the LTTE's killings of
rival party members. Indian High Commissioner Nirupam Sen during
a 90-minute discussion with TULF leaders also called them to settle
their internal disputes.
Mr. Sen is
reported to have told the delegation that from the beginning the
LTTE had been involved in killing its rivals and this should be
brought to a halt. He called on the TULF to use its influence to
bring the LTTE back to the negotiating table.
The TULF had
explained to the Indian High Commissioner its views on the deadlock
in the peace process. Mr. Sen said the internal rift within the
party should be resolved and as a moderate party the TULF should
maintain unity.
The remark
came amidst internal squabbles within the party and a reported move
by the LTTE to oust party President V. Anandasangaree. The LTTE
has reportedly informed the TULF that it would not deal with Mr.
Anandasangaree in the future.
A TULF delegation
also met Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe for talks on the deadlocked
peace process and the further postponement of local elections in
the North and East.
