Dido wins with White Flag
The legendary folk/rock duo Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel are likely to reunite for a series of concerts. Fans of the duo were thrilled when they reunited to perform ‘The Sound of Silence’ at the Grammy Awards held in February.

Simon and Garfunkel broke up nearly three decades ago. They united for two concerts in 1983 and 1993. Gwen Stefani of the band No Doubt has teamed up with several hip-hop personalities for her debut solo album.

Among those contributing towards the album are Outkast and Missy Elliot. Stefani is keeping an open mind on the format of the album, which will be progressive and will sound different to No Doubt. The group No Doubt is working on a single which will be included on a singles’ collection album to be released by the end of the year.

The US rap act Black Eyed Peas took over the No: 1 position on the UK singles chart with ‘Where Is The Love’. The group has been making several attempts at taking a big dig at the chart since 1998. They failed until they picked special guest star Justin Timberlake to be on the song ‘Where Is The Love’.

While this is the first time Black Eyed Peas has hit the No. 1 in the UK, it is also the very first No: 1 for Justin Timberlake. The former N’Sync star never made it to the top of the UK chart either as a member of the group or as a solo star earlier.

Dido entered the UK chart at No: 2 with ‘White Flag’. Dido has never had a No: 1 song and was not famous until ‘Thank You’ was featured in Eminen’s hit ‘Stan’. Dido was and is part of Faithless. But on earlier albums her name was never displayed prominently.
After ‘Stan’ she eventually went on to become the best-selling UK female artiste.
A few months ago Big Brovaz sampled a track form ‘The Sound of Music’ for the hit ‘Favourite Things’ which peaked at No: 2. On their current hit ‘Baby boy’ which entered the UK singles chart at No: 4. the females take centre stage with the video being a spoof on the Friends trailer.

One of the best heavy metal rock bands, Iron Maiden, entered the chart at No: 6 with ‘Wildest Dreams’. The band visited the UK Top 20 regularly since 1982, beginning with the song ‘Run to the Hills’, but when Bruce Dickinson quit it went into a kind of slumber.
It was not until he returned that things began to get back into shape.

The Rolling Stones - the oldest surviving ‘60s rock band made their mark on the chart at No: 14 this week with ‘Sympathy For The Devil’. With their greatest hits collection ’40 Licks’ selling like hot cakes the Stones released this old song which was on their album Beggars Banquet.

For some reason or another the song has been remixed by the Neptunes. Fans of the group may not like this version. This is the Rolling Stones first top 20 hit since 1995 when they covered an old Bob Dylan classic ‘Like A Rolling Stone’.

Sir Elton John has denied media reports that he would take up long term residency in Las Vegas. Reports from his office say he will never be tied down for long contracts.
He was expected to play hundreds of shows for a lucrative contract.
