The tradition continues
By Aaysha Cader
The Broadcasting Unit of Ananda College celebrates its 30th anniversary
this year with a variety of activities including a workshop and
the publication of a book on Mass Communication. The unit, which
trains its students in various aspects of news presenting and compering
in English and Sinhalese, has produced many eminent media personalities
in the past.
The Media Workshop
‘Sandeshaya 2003 – the legend continues…’
will be held on September 20 at the BMICH and the organizers of
the event are anticipating over 1000 schoolchildren interested in
the print and electronic media. The chief guest will be Education
Minister Karunasena Kodituwakku. Popular media personalities like
Arun Dias Bandaranaike and Noeline Honter will give lectures. A
special feature will be a combined English-Sinhala lecture.
There will
also be an entertainment programme of song and dance. The unit has
also worked off the annual announcing contest, which they have conducted
in the past four years, with the participation of schools from all
over the island.
Plans are underway
to launch a book on the media, with contributions from prominent
media personalities. Earlier, the Broadcasting Unit had gone on
the air with a transmission titled Anadasara. Last year, the unit
successfully carried out a signature project to establish a good
media culture in the country.
