Amanda : Singing psychologist
Singing Sensation Amanda from Australia is our cover girl this week.
Though she is a singer, composer and a song writer, her Sri Lankan assignment is not to perform.

She is a professional psychologist. Her mission in Sri Lanka is to treat the displaced children in war-torn areas. “I have two main identities in professional life; musician and psychologist. Some say that the two are a strange combination. For me they are simultaneous and intertwined.

They are both about people and about emotion. They are both about celebrating the diversity and intensity of life - the joy, the pain, the sadness, the fear, the love. They are both about profoundly caring about and for humanity,” Amanda said.

She has teamed up with Lanka’s Jason Knight for his latest video.
“Working with Jason is working with someone who shares the same creative vision for innovation, and the spark that sets one apart from the rest.

The challenge is to inspire social awareness, create music with a message whilst also inspiring pure enjoyment and emotion. Visuals complement music in evoking ideas and emotion, and Jason’s upcoming music video is where I portray the images to match the sentiment,” she explained.

“Like my role models in the music industry, Ani Difranco, Tori Amos, Tracy Chapman, Norah Jones I hope that my audience see me as a strong woman with spunk, vitality and an unconventional touch that knows no boundaries.

I hope they experience my voice as one rich in genuine emotion and feeling from the inner core of myself. Each time I perform, I try to give them that little bit extra, that evocative pizazz that stands out and blows people away”, she said.

“Music needs to be rich, vibrant, different, It needs to tell the story of people’s souls without so many words. It has to be like life; to vary from deeply soulful to cheeky and fun, with that naughty sparkle in the eye. Empty music will not inspire passion”, Amanda went on explaining.

Amanda is at the moment in Colombo but her main work station is in war-torn areas. “In Colombo I hope to complete few of my songs with Jason”, Amanda added.
