Taiwanese
investors keen but concerned
A group of Taiwanese Investors who say they are ready to build a
separate Taiwan industrial zone in Sri Lanka have expressed concern
about the present political instability.
The 70-member
group led by Mark Liao, Chairman of the Shinin Silica Corporation
of Taiwan, is now in the country on a mission to field out investment
opportunities available here. They met Commerce & Consumer Affairs
Minister Ravi Karunanayake recently and while discussing their investment
plans also raised concerns about the current crisis and asked whether
investments are safe if there is a change in government.
Karunanayake
told the group that no political party will interfere with private
sector investments in the country once it assumed office and added
that the present political crisis was only temporary, the minister's
office said in a press release.
Liao said Taiwanese
businessmen are ready to invest $6 million during the first four
years of their entry into this market. He said they would like to
invest in sectors such as highways, agriculture, energy, travel
and tourism and would bring the latest technology available in Taiwan. |
