130 MPs to petition IPU, Commonwealth
Petitions signed by 130 parliamentarians, who back Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in the ongoing power crisis with President Chandrika Kumaratunga, are to be sent to the Inter parliamentary Union and the Commonwealth Secretariat in a bid to mobilize international opinion against what the petitioners describe as a threat to parliament.

Chief Government whip Malinda Samarasinghe said the signatures were being collected and the petitions would be sent this week along with copies of the Speaker's recent ruling on the prorogation.
