President
vows to pursue consensus
President Chandrika Kumaratunga said yesterday she wanted to cooperate
with all political parties to reach a consensus, as she believed
that she had the blessings of the people.
Addressing
a meeting organised by the Western Provincial Council to felicitate
principals and teachers, the President said though she had been
insulted by some members, she was ready for a consensus with the
UNF and other parties and would go ahead with it whatever the cost.
The President
expressed concern that the education budget had been slashed by
about 60 percent as she believed that it was a top priority area. |
