Emulate OPA
President Chandrika Kumaratunga said yesterday that the country
was at the crossroads and it was essential to forge political, racial
and religious unity.
Addressing a meeting to mark the induction of the new president
of the Organisation of Professional Associations (OPA), the President
said that just as different professionals had come together in the
OPA, all parties also needed to come together.
She said if
more professionals had come forward to play a bigger role in national
affairs, even the war could have been better managed. The President
expressed concern over reports of inter-religious disputes in various
parts of the country and said she hoped the people would rise above
such differences and forge the unity in diversity.
Senior Minister
Karu Jayasuriya addressing the ceremony said national policies of
key areas like health care, education and national security should
be guided by professionals. Senior lawyer Parakrama Karunaratne
