Security
tightened at oil storage complex
By Shanika Udawatte
Steps have been taken to intensify the security of the Kolonnawa
oil storage complex after police intelligence received a tip-off
that the complex had been video-taped recently.
A conference
had been held regarding the issue last week with the attendance
of senior Police and Army officers, security management officials
of the Kolonnawa oil storage complex and the OIC of the Wellampitiya
police station.
A senior police
officer said an intensified security plan would be brought into
action.
Speculations over security threats to the complex rose early this
month after a para (an illumination device used by troops to indicate
locations), fell near a storage tank. It was suspected that the
para had been launched from a venue about 1.5 km away from the complex.
Security officials
at the Kolonnawa complex had requested the relevant authorities
to take action to set up a security post on top of the high-rise
Sahasrapura building as the entire complex can be viewed from the
top of the building. |
