International
models on the ramp at ARENA 2003/4
Style fused with energy
The word is out around Colombo. It's the show everyone's been waiting
for. ARENA 2003/4, earlier to be held on November 19, will now take
place on Tuesday, November 25 and by the sound of it, it's going
to be awesome. What makes this event different from your run of
the mill fashion show is the whole visual concept. To start off
with, you've got 11 gorgeous women and four dashing men on the ramp.
The female models
are all from Europe and are really looking forward to their visit
to Sri Lanka. The four male models are Shakil and Tony from India
and of course the hunky Jackson twins Preach and Danger from USA.
The twins will also be the opening act of the show.
A highly talented
duo, Preach & Danger's performances include high-energy dance
routines, which are further electrified due to the natural synergy
between the twins.
Namrata G, fashion designer, stylist and fashion columnist from
Bangalore will also present her collection at ARENA 2003/4. Meeting
Roy de Silva, Chairman of ARENA, in Bangalore and exchanging ideas
on the fashion industry they had come up with the idea to launch
a collection of readymade garments from the Namrata G label in Sri
Lanka. The collection would retain the Namrata G eye to detail,
cut and colour etc. but be more accessible price wise to Colombo's
men and women.
Speaking on
her collection Namrata says "The collection will be styled
in an Indian fusion but with western silhouettes in mind. An eastern
influence is very much in vogue where we have been using a lot of
silk-crushed and pin tucked - to fuse this look.”
DJ for the night
will be Davide Ruberto from Rumini, Italy. Introduced to music at
the age of 10, today Davide has evolved to a stage where he works
with electronic percussion in the best Italian and Europeans clubs.
Pursuing his passion for music he has lived in Los Angeles for several
years. There he produced for labels such as Columbia, Reprise, Sony,
Warner Bros., A & M, Tribal and Scotti Bros. etc. and he has
re-mixed music by stars like Cheer, James Brown, Joni Mitchell,
Dina Carrol, George Duke and Ce Ce Peniston.
ARENA 2003/4
is being held for deserving charity, Nisala Diya Sevana which is
a home for sexually abused girls in Munnakkara, Negombo. The funds
collected will be directed towards the general maintenance and educational
programme to help these young girls find future employment and independence.
Tickets for
the show are priced at Rs. 6,000/- (inclusive of dinner) and will
be available at the ARENA outlet at Hilton Colombo. The sponsors
of the show are Hilton Colombo, Royal Jordanian Airlines, Jaguar-Regency
Automobiles (Pvt) Ltd., Escada - Exclusive Lines, Dove - Unilever
Ceylon Limited and Alpha Orient Lanka. Media Sponsors are The Sunday
Times, ART TV and Sun FM. Hair Stylists are the Ramani Fernando
Salons. |
