OBU to conduct Invitation "PEACE" Basketball Tournament
Old Boys Union of St. Peter's College Colombo will be organizing
a "Peace" Basketball tournament from 28-30 November at
the College and St Lawrence's courts.
The school from Bambalapitiya also initiated a tour of Jaffna with
the school soccer team and after touring Jaffna, they invited them
back for a series of matches in Colombo.
At a press
conference held recently at college following were disclosed by
the old Boys Union of St. Peter's. Schools from St. Michael's Batticaloa,
St. Joseph's Trincomalee, St. Patrick's Jaffna, St. Anthony's Katugastota,
St. Anne's Kurunegala, Maris Stella Negombo, Holy Cross Kalutara
and the hosts St. Peter's will take part in this tournament where
the teams will be divided into 2 groups and played on a league basis.
The first 2 teams from each group gets qualified for the semi finals.
The unique
feature of this tournament is that teams from all parts of the Island
are taking part and it is taking place at the correct time where
peace is in danger in the country.
The opening
ceremony is scheduled at 7 a.m. on 28th November with Rt Revd. Dr.
Oswald Gomis the Archbishop of Colombo will be the chief quest.
The consolation final and the final will take place on 30 November
at 3.30 p.m. with Hon Mahinda Samarasinghe as the chief guest. The
main sponsors are John Keells, Ceylon Cold Stores and Janashakthi
Insurance and the objective is "peace through sports".
