Haute Couture 2004 to be held this evening at the Atrium Lobby of the Colombo Plaza will see one of Colombo’s hottest young designers, Andre Estefan, present his collection for 2004.

Estefan has something for both men and women this season. What he can reveal about his designs for the ladies is that they’re not the run of the mill evening wear, but one of a kind creations. “My designs are for the age group of 16-35,” he says. Some of them are quite daring, he smiles, for a woman who’s not afraid of her femininity.

There’s loads of glamour in the Estefan collection, just perfect for the festive season. Rich fabrics such as silk, feathers are aplenty and to complement the outfits there are some wonderful shoes.

For the man who wants to be counted in the fashion stakes, the Estefan look is all male, very fitted trousers and sharply defined shirts, with particular emphasis on the cut. The designer himself is excited about the show. “We have emphasised specialist areas,” he says. Sri Lankan fashion, he feels, lacks defined professional areas; “They want to be masters in everything.” He has focused on particular aspects that he feels are important.

“With Fashion Weekend we hit the international arena,” he says. “Now it’s important to build on that platform.” In his view people are unfortunately more concerned about the concept value and pay little attention to the fashion element. Vasantha of Kess Salon will handle the hair and Yohan of Cutting Station the make up, at Haute Couture 2004.
