No sound, only
fury
The faulty sound system within the Parliament chambers seems to
have spread to the committee rooms of the complex as well. The microphones
in the room where government spokesman G.L.Peiris was holding his
weekly press briefing refused to turn on and the Minister himself
had to go and alert the technical staff to attend to the matter.
Who’s
holding what?
Things proceeded smoothly from then on at which point he was met
with another sort of hurdle. There was a query from a journalist
whether the Minister could elaborate on the newly passed Citizenship
Act. Mr.Peiris said he was not familiar with the subject and would
bring the minister in charge the following week to answer the query.
What he had
overlooked was the fact that the former Interior Minister John Amaratunge
who presented the Bill was no longer holding that post. Instead
it was the President who was in charge of the subject now and would
that mean he would be bringing her to answer the questions, a reporter
asked. A bemused Mr.Peiris admitted that with the fast changing
political scenario, he was losing track of who was holding which
ministry. One thing he knew for sure though was he wouldn't be bringing
the President along with him next week.
