Excellent weather
The weather
gods were gracious and the course was in peak condition, absolutely
kind to the capacity crowd that gave the course good and bad treatment.
The happy award ceremony was crowded and the restaurant at lunch
time was choked to capacity over a high class Oriental Buffet, laced
with Scotlands best & hosted by Ally Weerasinghe Ltd.
Mervyn excels
Mervyn Hettiarachchi who just recently crowned himself with
glory with an excellent win was once again in the forefront with
a stunning collection of 41 points to tie with Navin de Silva &
Harris Serasinghe. Hetti had the best back nine and collected the
handsome award from Avinda Weerasinghe. A popular winner he received
rousing applause at award time. Navin of A340 fame came 2nd followed
by Serasinghe.
In the ladies
event Dilini de Soysa beat Anusha Senadhira by 2 points to collect
a handsome award.
In the Seniors
D.S.P.S. de Silva the smartest exponent of the hammer & sickle
swing came good with a great score of 41 points to beat P.R. Balaratnarajah.
De Silva swung to success in the hidden holes competition with 18
points and a comfortable win. In the Junior event Sanjay Gunawardena
still under Norman Gunawardena's wing came good with 39 points to
beat little Zen Dharmaratne a promising fella.
Sarath Piyaratne
the Captain was eloquent at the award ceremony. Avinda Weerasinghe
responded superbly.
Delighted with
the success of the event he promised to ensure repeats in the years
to come. His brother Asanga helped at the award ceremony and so
did elegant Chitranee Wickrama-Adithiya with an unusually attractive
cover crop hair style. The fun through lunch time was pacy and bouncy.
The community singing had its patches of disaster but then Norman
Gunawardena and Ajantha Mylvaganam took over superbly backed by
Ron Bakelman and gave us the joy of listening. Much thanks to AWL
for a great sponsorship & much credit to Sarath Piyaratne &
Kumar Borelessa for the skilful handling of a tricky competition.
