Registrar
of Companies slow
The Registrar of Companies is still far behind the times despite
reported plans for computerisation and government rhetoric about
e-commerce, and is unable to provide information without rigorous
paper work. The department recently reported a big increase in the
number of new companies with the total number of companies registered
up to October being 3,218, exceeding last year's figure of 3,116.
A total of 4,000
companies are expected to register this year. The increase is believed
to be due to the better economic conditions, the more liberalized
economy and better facilities.
However, when
The Sunday Times FT inquired about the type of companies that have
been registered, the capital used, and other information about defunct
firms, an official at the department said such research hasn't been
carried out yet and was unavailable. (RS)
