Six
month wait for action on complaint
Former Lake House Chairman and journalist Lucien Rajakarunanayake
had been asked to appear before a mediation council on December
20 in connection with a complaint he made to the police six months
ago.
In his complaint
lodged at Colombo police Headquarters on June 1 Mr. Rajakarunanayake
had alleged that Fisheries Minister Mahinda Wijesekara had threatened
him with death.
Mr. Rajakarunanayake
said the alleged incident occurred on May 30 at Hotel Hilton over
an article he had written about the Minister. Mr. Rajakarunanayake
told The Sunday Times it had taken the police six months to act
on his complaint and added that they said he needs to first go before
a mediation council before going to courts.
Based on his
complaint the police had also recorded a statement from Minister
Wijesekara about six months ago. |
