Key
TULF meeting put off
By Shelani Perera
The central committee meeting of the TULF which was scheduled for
today has been postponed amidst protests from members. Earlier the
working committee was to appoint a disciplinary committee to probe
charges listed against party president V Anandasangaree calling
for his removal from the party and from his post, following the
no-confidence motion passed against him by the party.
The party had
charged Mr. Anandasangaree for violating TNA policy by not accepting
the LTTE as the sole representative of the Tamil people. However
Mr. Anandasangaree had protested to party general secretary R Sampanthan
last week that the move to convene a central committees meeting
on December 14 without his approval was illegal.
TULF MP Joseph
Pararajasingham told The Sunday Times that Sunday's meeting was
postponed due to the budget and the MPs being busy. The party has
rescheduled the central committee meeting for December 21, The Sunday
Times learns.
The postponement
due to the budget follows the TULF holding a meeting two weeks ago
where the no-confidence motion was passed amidst protests by Mr.
Anandasangaree. ' The no-confidence motion stands. It is now up
to the president to relinquish his duties but he is not doing it.
He has to do this in terms of the party constitution' said Mr. Pararajasingham.
Last week,
Mr. Anandasangaree accused Mr. Sampanthan of preparing the agenda
arbitrarily for the central committee meeting where the no-faith
resolution against him was passed. "It is mandatory on the
part of the general secretary to consult the president at all times,
but he did not consult me this time," Mr. Anandasangaree said.
