‘Cine
Tharu’ Rathriya lights up past
Popular film stars of the silver screen would gather at the BMICH
on December 16 to give live performances at the musical film show
named ‘Cine Tharu Rathriya’.
The show has
been organised by recently formed Cine Star Foundation, a body of
artistes and technicians who seek the welfare of film artistes and
technicians and upliftment of the Sri Lankan film industry. The
organisers hope to raise Rs. 2 million being the life and medical
insurance premium for 350 artistes and technicians associated with
the industry.
The show will
primarily feature popular songs, dances and stunts of the local
film across the years. The number of performers- film stars at this
show is expected to be over 100. Whilst performing on stage these
film heroes will try to give us a flavour of the times gone by and
raise nostalgic memories in us.
Commenting on
the show the convenors of the Cine Star Foundation Sangeetha Weeraratne
and Yashoda Wimaladharma said the strength and continuity of any
art form depends on its participants. The success of any industry,
depends on the dedication and ability of all those engaged in it.
“There
are many who have helped the continuity of Sinhala cinema and the
Sri Lanka film industry, through sheer dedication and put into it
their sweat and tears. Over many decades these people have given
the public much enjoyment, relaxation and knowledge. And it is a
fact that these dedicated people have to fall back on their own
resources and strength to ensure that the industry remains viable
and continues to move in beneficial directions. And the foundation
is coming forward because of this commitment and unity,” the
convenors said.
Unilever’s
flagship beauty brand Lux joins with the Foundation to present the
show. Speaking on the Lux sponsorship Ms. Ramani Samarasundara,
Marketing Manager Personal Care Unilever Ceylon said it was happy
to be associated with the stars on the local film industry for this
worthy cause. “We firmly believe in upholding the film industry
and supporting the stars, and are happy to see the film stars come
out on stage to give their fans a performance never to be forgotten,”
Ms. Samrasundara said. The event will be telecast over Rupavahini
